Many Lessons
I explored Humber Bay today. It was very challenging finding humans to photograph, but I also learned a lot today.
Here are my 4 takeaways …
For this style of street photography I need a lot of potential subjects in a small amount of space. Humber Bay is huge and I had to walk a long ways to find someone that might be a good fit. It was very hard to catch a flow.
An active park or outdoor area like Humber Bay can be challenging because a lot of people are running, biking, power walking etc. So they are sweaty and in athletic attire. In my head I kept saying “they are sweaty and probably don’t want to be in a photo right now.” Maybe that was BS and I was just chickening out.
It’s very hard to properly light in open daylight. The sky quickly blows out and is over exposed. Very different than yesterday where I had an abundance of shade from the buildings in Kensington Market.
I really love walking in nature and taking in the city. Even though I was disappointed that I didn’t find more people to photograph, it felt like a win to walk and be alone with my thoughts. I felt very present and alive.
