Hassan
I never knew either of my grandfathers. I was born in Iran, in the middle of a war and my family migrated to Canada when I was a baby.
Therefore, I have very little understanding of what it would be like to have a grandfather in my life and to be honest never felt particularly connected to older men.
But there was something about Hassan. For the first time in my life I thought about what it could be like to have a grandfather.
The idea felt nice. Like daydreaming about somewhere warm. It felt good to imagine what could be possible.
As I sat and listened to Hassan’s stories of a different world and a different culture I could feel a part of my heart open up that felt uncharted.
I could have easily sat with him for an hour and asked dozens of questions.
Instead, I got 4 minutes with this beautiful and generous man.
He told me where to find him, so maybe I’ll go back for a second conversation.
If I go back I’ll show him the photos and maybe even some of the comments from all you wonderful humans.
Love,
D
