Wumi
I sensed Wumi’s energy even before I saw her. She was walking behind me on Queen Street west. I decided to walk a little slower to let her pass me on the sidewalk. I wanted to actually get a visual on her so that I could get a better idea if she would be a good fit for this project.
Within 2 seconds of her passing me I knew I had to introduce myself.
I quickly asked if I could take her photo and she was a bit reluctant. She wanted to know who I was and where the photos would be used. All very reasonable questions.
By the time I was done answering her questions we were laughing and cracking jokes like old friends.
As I was talking her photo I asked her a few questions about her life and really enjoyed hearing her answers.
We ended up walking for 15 mins together after the shoot.
In that 15 mins I am pretty sure we agreed to another photoshoot together with her partner.
That was a really fun encounter and the first experience with this project where I felt I would love to be friends with this human.
Something changed with this shoot. I think I realized that this project might be a really amazing way to meet new friends and build community.
Thank you Friend!
